The closest beach to Barranquilla is Pradomar, a 20-minute drive on the road past Puerto Colombia. Next come Sabanilla (25 min), Salinas del Rey — the region's only Blue Flag beach, 45 min away —, Puerto Velero (50 min) and Caño Dulce (55 min). All of them work as a day trip: no hotel, no early alarm.

Pradomar: Barranquilla's home beach (20 min)
If you only have half a day, this is the answer. Just past Puerto Colombia, it has the best food scene on the Atlántico coast — beach clubs, sunset cocktails and cabins facing the sea. Long, steady waves make it a great spot for a first surf or paddleboard lesson. Weekends are lively; weekdays it's a different, much quieter beach.
Salinas del Rey: the Blue Flag beach (45 min)
The only beach in the region with Blue Flag certification — the international seal for water quality, safety and services. From January to April, winds of 18–28 knots turn it into one of South America's best kitesurfing spots, with schools for every level. Full details on the Salinas del Rey page.
Puerto Velero: the family all-rounder (50 min)
A protected bay with calm water and the most complete services on the coast: sit-down restaurants, jet ski rental, boat rides and kitesurfing at the point. It's the safe pick for groups with kids and grandparents. More on the Puerto Velero page.
Caño Dulce and Sabanilla: to switch off
Caño Dulce (55 min) is the local favorite for quiet: calm water, fried-fish shacks and zero noise. Sabanilla (25 min) is the express escape — close, simple and the cheapest on the coast.
Getting there without a car
Minibuses to Puerto Colombia (for Pradomar and Sabanilla) leave from Carrera 46 in Barranquilla; for Salinas del Rey, Puerto Velero and Caño Dulce, intercity buses toward Juan de Acosta and Tubará depart from the bus terminal and stop at each beach turnoff, where mototaxis cover the last stretch.
