Viacrucis en Vivo de Usiacurí

The Viacrucis en Vivo of Usiacurí carries on more than 25 years of tradition. The event takes place every Good Friday starting at 10:00 a.m. The reenactment involves roughly 450 residents of the town, who portray biblical figures such as Herod, Caiaphas, the Nazarene, and the twelve Apostles. The Stations of the Cross wind through every neighborhood in town, always ending at the site once known as Loma de Reyita — also called Mirador Cristo Rey, and now the Parque Mirador del Sagrado Corazón — where the Nazarene is crucified at 12:00 p.m. Participants wear period costumes made at the Fundación Taller de Artes Tomás Urueta; the animals used in the reenactment are lent by local farmers.
