About this place
The highway connecting Barranquilla and Santa Marta runs the length of this park, so its lagoon and mangrove landscapes unfold along the entire drive — hence its unique 'Vía Parque' (Road Park) designation. It was declared an Important Bird Area (IBA) and, together with the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, a Ramsar Site of global importance (1998) and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (2000).
