Palcos are the grandstands from which you watch the big parades of Barranquilla Carnival 2027 along Vía 40. They range from budget mini-stands to VIP zones with shade and service, official sales usually open around November, and the best spots sell out weeks in advance. What are palcos and how does the Cumbiódromo work?
During the four days of Carnival, Vía 40 — an industrial avenue running parallel to the Magdalena River — becomes the "Cumbiódromo": a corridor several kilometers long, lined with grandstands, where the Battle of Flowers (Saturday), the Grand Parade of Tradition (Sunday) and the Grand Fantasy Parade (Monday) roll by. Palcos are generally sold as three-day parade packages, though some operators offer single-day tickets.

Official 2027 prices have not been published yet. As a reference, these were the 2026 ranges along Vía 40:

When and where to buy 2027 tickets
- When: official sales usually open around November, and the best palcos are gone before January.
- Where: only through the official Carnaval S.A.S. channels (carnavaldebarranquilla.org), the authorized ticketer (TuBoleta in recent editions) and tour operators holding Colombia's National Tourism Registry (RNT).
- Hotel bundles: several RNT agencies sell palco + accommodation combos — handy for international visitors. Check our where-to-stay guide first.
How to avoid scams
- Beware of "cheap" palcos sold through social media with no company details: fake tickets appear every year.
- Verify the seller has a valid RNT registration and issues formal invoices.
- Prefer named digital tickets from official channels; avoid buying printed tickets on the street on parade day.
- If a price looks too good to be true during Carnival week — it is.
No palco? Carnival for free
Good news: much of Carnival costs nothing. The Guacherna night parade is free from the street, as are the neighborhood verbenas, Tuesday's Burial of Joselito and several open stretches of the parades. With an early start, you can live an unforgettable Carnival without a ticket.
Vía 40 or Gran Malecón? The 2027 venue question
Barranquilla's city hall is studying whether to move the big parades from Vía 40 to the Gran Malecón riverfront starting in 2027; a decision is expected by August 2026.
